Presentation A 20-year old woman presented 5 days after sustaining a scald to the right foot.
On examination she had a partial thickness burn of the right dorsum of the foot, with blisters and complete loss of the epidermis and part of the dermis. She was experiencing extreme pain.
Treatment The wound was cleaned and disinfected by rinsing with normal saline solution, and cautious blotting with sterile gauze compresses. AquaClear was applied and secured with an elastic bandage. The patient was advised to rest and relieve the foot of strain as much as possible.
The dressing was changed every 6 days.
Conclusion After 30 days the wound was completely healed, with no visible scar formation. Only 5 dressing changes were needed to obtain this result.
